Extraction Guardian Gear Model Mk.58
The Dorvack kits, being 1/24 Power Armor with chunky proportions, are very very close to the Ma.K/SF3D scale of 1/20, so naturally it felt like it was time to try a conversion to a 1/20 scale suit! This time around, some pre-planning was involved in order to really sell the scale change, however minor.
The first order of action was to make an "open" cockpit and cut away the hatch/face of the Dorvack suit - with the curved contour, a good amount of sanding and smoothing was needed after the first initial cuts. Afterwards, the ball type kit joints were completely cut away and replaced by Ma.K style soft accordion joints sculpted from green stuff putty. This also allowed the stance and pose to be set a bit more convincingly than the stiff and cramped Dorvack original design.
Using a leftover pilot bust from a Hasegawa Mk44 kit and a few Zaku 2.0 inner frame parts, the opened cockpit area was turned into a worker style suit. Design cues from various resource gathering units from Real-Time-Strategy PC games such as the SCV from Starcraft were definite points of reference, and the energy crystal on the base was made from one of those kid's "grow your own crystal" kits. While it's not entirely convincing, it does have the look of a machine designed for heavy industry on a distant colony world, laboring all day to gather some kind of mysterious but valuable substance.
This was a fun project in slightly changing the box designated scale of a kit - while it is fairly minor in terms of the scale modification, it was a lot of fun to create a pretty different design than the original. The total modification of the joints of a kit really help sell these proportional changes - try it out!
