These Takara vintage VOTOMS kits have always seemed enticing as they have great chunky Okawara style proportions. The small 1/48 kits were a good place to start as they have a very low parts count even for a vintage kit, and are surprisingly well designed for their age.

The base was an experiment with resin poured water - while the resin came out fairly clear and smooth on top, the heat from the resin curing caused one of the edges of the sidewalls to curl inadvertently. It looks kind of strange in the final product, but something to look out for next time!

The kit is so simple that many parts are molded together, such as the shoulder armor and upper arms. This leads to a pretty limited amount of articulation, especially in the lower body. The feet actually don't stand flat on the ground, so hiding the lower legs with the resin water made a lot of sense.

A fun little build of a very very simplistic kit that served mainly for the resin water experiment. The 1/48 scale makes for a very small finished product so a couple of these would make a good small diorama. Takara definitely seemed to be pretty advanced in model engineering for the 80s, on the same level as Imai, looking forward to trying one of the larger 1/35 VOTOMS.
