MS-07B Gouf and HT-01B Magella Attack

The Origin kit line is the first Gunpla line that I have built where the kit's engineering really made go "Wow". I have not been building models for the longest time, but the Origin kits are when I really started seeing the progression of the way the kits were designed. This Gouf compared to the Gouf Custom HG I built a few years before was astounding! The wide range of articulation, partial inner frame detail, and a very user friendly parts layout were all features that stood out to me.

This kit was originally the Prototype Gouf which had a bit of a strange look due to having no hands, but it had a great sense of proportion and surface detail, which went well with the more hard-edged look of the EX Model Magella Attack.

Hands leftover from a Dougram kit were added as well as a proper Gouf Heat Saber. The chest and skirt armor had 1/100 Zaku I parts grafted on to beef up the midsection. In the Origin artwork, the Gouf is shown to have a small machine gun in the chest so that was added as well.

The backpack was replaced with one from a Origin Zaku, and the whole kit was painted in a desert scheme partially inspired by the old MSV Prototype Gouf colors. The camo netting is medical gauze dyed with inks and set in place with thinned acrylic medium.

I hope I was able to do Yas's amazing Origin artwork justice with this build. It's a brilliant take on the story of first Gundam, I am sure there are many more scenes from it to pull on for inspiration for future builds and dioramas.
