MS-06K Zaku Cannon
During my visit to SCGMC in 2015, a quick trip to a secondhand store in LA Little Tokyo netted me this very old kit. While I had built one of the "first generation" Gunpla before, this was the first one where I attempted some serious modifications to bring it a bit more in line with modern expectations (something that was achieved much more successfully later).
The main modifications were replacing the kit hands (absolutely essential on these old Gunpla), and cutting apart the waist so the suit could lean forward slightly rather than just standing completely straight. The camouflage netting is made from medical gauze dyed with acrylic inks and a small gem was added for the monoeye, as on these older kits, it is simply a decal originally.
While not my best work, it was a crucial step in my progress and helped build my passion for vintage kits and definitely did a lot to increase my comfort level with kits that required a bit more elbow grease than usual. The finished build was given away on Instagram to celebrate a milestone, and now is in the collection of a very talented individual!
