K-2SO
I'm not much of a Star Wars fan, but one of my bandmates and close friends is (he's one of those people who has strong opinions about the lore of the prequels) and when the Bandai Star Wars kits started getting rave reviews from my local hobby shop community, I decided to build one for him as a gift. Rogue One being the most recent Star Wars film I watched at the time (well I had it on in the background while cleaning so I semi-watched it) I decided to go with the large Droid character K2SO as it was the closest to a "Mecha" of any of the Star Wars kits.
The kit itself is extremely well designed and engineered - I have never built a 1/12 figure kit before and if they are anything like this one, color me impressed.
The kit has very very good articulation right out of the box and there are almost no visible seams even when just snapped together.
The character in the film was a reprogrammed Droid from the Empire, so I imagined this type must have been used in a variety of roles and mass produced, thus I tried to bring a more industrial and workmanlike appearance to the color scheme. Something that would look like it did technical tasks on a spaceship or a backwater base (does the Empire use Droids for that?)
With any gift build, the only thing that matters is that the recipient likes it, and I'm happy to report that it lives next to his music production console while he mixes music. Between model making and playing music... I need some cheaper hobbies!
