Großer Hund Ausf K Kyklop

My second ever Ma.K and my first ever Hasegawa kit! At the time, I had only built one Wave Ma.K kit and some Gunpla, so this was my first experience with a kit that absolutely required glue and had construction along traditionally "scale model" lines. It was quite a learning experience and a lot of lessons were gained that have been applied to many projects since this one.

The Kyklop is a newer variant of the Großer Hund which appeared very briefly in the SF3D original era. It has a predatory animalistic look which fits its description as an AI unit designed for combat. It stands a good bit taller than the typical Ma.K suit and is very imposing.

This was before I started hand painting in the Ma.K style, so the colors were sprayed using a mix of Mr. Color paints. Even though the kit is definitely in the scale model style of requiring glue and filler, it is articulated via polycaps and was easily painted in subassemblies.

The base was an early experiment at doing wet effects with acrylic glaze medium. The texture of the ground was added first and then glaze medium was added with a drop of brown ink to create the pools of muddy water.

Another early attempt at oil paint weathering, and I do find the weathering on this build a little out of scale and over baked in retrospect. This was my first encounter with the very thick Hasegawa decals and I quickly learned the value of decal setting solution.

While this was an early build with many issues, it was a valuable experience in working with scale model style kits. This was also my first ever kit that I sold - thanks to my friends at The Loin, a great gallery and screen printing shop in San Francisco, it was sold at one of their art shows. It felt great to get a Ma.K kit in front of the general public and I'm really happy it had a good reception.
