Armored Fighting Suit Mk. II

The very first Ma.K / SF3D design ever, the AFS Mk.II was also the first ever SF3D kit released in the '80s. This is the modern Wave version of the design and not too much has changed about the design compared to the original other than the actual parts and engineering of the kit. It still looks fantastic and fresh as any sci-fi design nowadays despite being 30+ years old.

The kit was painted with GaiaNotes Dunkelgelb and I wanted to keep it as simple as possible and see if a single colored suit could be made visually interesting via the pose and weathering. When sculpting the joints, I tried to give a sense of weight shifting to the stance as if the suit is about to start moving forward and walking.

A single red power cable was added to the weapon in order to add a small pop of color.

The base is actually a metal canned fish tin that was capped with a small acrylic disc and the terrain was added to it. The flocking and static grass are just standard items from the model railroad shop and a small stream of acrylic glaze was added to show a little bit of flowing water.

The kit supplied pilot was replaced with a Wave SAFS pilot bust as to make the pose work, the pilot had to be looking up slightly. I believe this was also my first time doing any kind of attempt at stubble or facial hair strictly with paint on the pilot.

Like all the Wave AFS kits, this builds quickly and is a lot of fun to paint. It's pretty cool that such an old design still looks great today, and I would love to be able to have a Nitto AFS to place next to it for a side by side comparison.
